Katy’s paternal grandparents met as Vaudeville performers—her grandfather eventually became the road manager for Ringling Bros a position he held until his death in 1945. Just over 20 years later, Katy was “imported”, born in Germany. A US citizen by birth, she was about six months old when she arrived in the US on the SS United States, an ocean liner whose incredible history ended in 2025, underwater, just off the coast of Florida, now being used as an artificial reef.
