Dr. Pinky Miller, a native of Paterson, New Jersey, was educated through the public school system, attending Public School #24 and the famed Paterson Eastside High School. Eastside was depicted in the 1989 movie Lean on Me, in which Morgan Freeman portrayed the controversial principal, Mr. Joe Clark. Dr. Miller received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies, and her Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Montclair State University. In 2011, she received her PhD from Georgia State University.
