Stephanie Big Eagle was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is of Dakota, Lakota, Irish, and Norse ancestry. She is a Traditional Handpoke Tattooist and educator, a published author, an environmental & Indigenous activist, an international runway model, a traditional fancy shawl dancer, an educational speaker, and a singer-songwriter. She has starred in several documentaries and films about her culture and Traditional Tattoo practice. Currently, a feature film is in the works based on her memoir, Thunderbird Rising
