Paterson began acting when they were 10, taking classes with Kaleidoscope Theater and performing in many of the company's yearly winter plays. They are a classically trained mezzo-soprano and enjoy playing piano, acoustic guitar, and bass. They also compose music of a wide variety of genres, such as choral, jazz, folk, and musical theater. They are fluent in both English and French.
