Ken Carpenter was born in Fort Collins Colorado. His early years were spent on his Grandfather's ranch in Saratoga Wyoming. He graduated from Platte Valley High in 1959. Attended Baylor University for a year before entering the USAF where he served at Clark AB Philippine Islands, and JCS at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He attended the University of Wyoming in 1964 and graduated in 1969 with a BA. His summers were spent as a river guide in Jackson Hole Wyoming.
